I was looking for a custom made shower door and I came across Built by Glass Inc. Compared to other companies this one had a very reasonable price and I was very pleased by the fast pace everything was done by. Jay was very helpful and knew exactly what he was doing. Overall 10 out of 10.

Founded by Jay in Pickering in 2015, Built By Glass has completed 983+ installations across all 24 GTA cities. The Built By Glass method — measure twice, cut once — never changes between projects.
Every neighbourhood, mapped.
From our Durham Region headquarters in Pickering, we install frameless glass and custom mirrors across the entire Greater Toronto Area — twenty-four cities, four service zones, one standard.
Every frameless shower enclosure, glass railing, and custom mirror installed by Built By Glass uses 10 mm or 12 mm heat-treated tempered safety glass — the same specification demanded by high-rise architects and Ontario's top custom home builders. Tempered glass is four to five times stronger than standard float glass and, critically, fractures into small blunt fragments rather than dangerous shards, satisfying the safety glazing requirements outlined in the Ontario Building Code (OBC) Division B, Section 9.6.
Our glass railing systems — whether interior stair guards or exterior deck enclosures — are engineered to meet OBC Part 9 guardrail load requirements: a minimum 0.75 kN/m lateral force rating at the top rail, with glass panels anchored via stainless-steel spigots, structural base shoes, or standoff hardware torqued to manufacturer specifications. Every post layout is calculated against your floor structure before a single hole is drilled.
For frameless shower enclosures, we default to 3/8" (10 mm) tempered glass on inline and neo-angle configurations, and upgrade to 1/2" (12 mm) on pivot-door and heavy frameless applications where door mass demands it. Hardware — hinges, handles, U-channels, and clips — is sourced in brushed nickel, matte black, polished chrome, and satin brass to match your plumbing fixtures exactly.
Built By Glass serves an 80-kilometre radius from our Pickering facility, covering Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, Brampton, Oakville, Oshawa, and every community in between. Typical lead time from measure to install is 7–14 business days for standard configurations — faster than most big-box referral services that simply broker your job to an unknown installer. Built By Glass coordinates every step: templating, fabrication, delivery, and installation.

From the day of the final laser measure, your custom tempered glass panels take 10–14 business days to be cut and tempered by our glass suppliers. On-site installation is completed in a single day — typically under six hours. We never measure for glass before tile is fully installed and grouted, because measuring to drawings rather than a real finished surface is the most common reason frameless installs fail.
We exclusively install tempered safety glass, which is 4–5 times stronger than standard annealed glass and required by the Ontario Building Code for shower enclosures and railings. In the rare event tempered glass breaks, it crumbles into small, dull fragments rather than sharp shards. Spontaneous breakage is extremely rare and is covered under our 5-year written warranty.
Squeegee the panels after every shower — 30 seconds prevents 90% of hard-water buildup. For deep cleaning, a 50/50 mix of distilled white vinegar and warm water with a microfibre cloth works better than ammonia-based products. Optional ClearShield nano-coating, applied at install, triples the time between deep cleans by repelling water and soap film.
Most residential glass railing installations in Ontario do not require a separate building permit — they fall under the scope of the original structure or renovation permit. However, if you are adding a railing to an existing deck as a standalone project, or if your municipality requires permit drawings for guards, a permit may apply. We advise on this during your free measure appointment. See our glass railings page for full OBC compliance details.
Yes — exterior glass guards are explicitly permitted under the Ontario Building Code (Part 9, Section 9.8) provided they meet height, load, and glass specifications. We install OBC-compliant 10mm and 12mm tempered glass with structural stainless standoffs or full base shoes. Laminated glass is available on request for applications where post-breakage containment is required.
A properly installed frameless shower does not leak. Frameless enclosures use magnetic door seals, bottom sweeps, and architectural-grade silicone at all glass-to-wall and glass-to-floor transitions. The most common cause of leaks is installer error — incorrect silicone placement, gaps at the base, or hardware not torqued to spec. Our 5-year warranty covers seal failures resulting from our installation.
The tempered glass itself lasts indefinitely — it does not degrade, yellow, or lose clarity over time. Quality PVD-coated or 316 stainless hardware holds its finish for 15–20 years under normal bathroom conditions. The only items requiring periodic maintenance are the door seals and silicone bead at the perimeter, which typically need refreshing every 8–12 years depending on cleaning habits and water chemistry.
For most residential frameless shower installations across the GTA, 10mm fully tempered glass is the correct and sufficient choice — it meets all Ontario code requirements and handles standard door spans and hardware loads. We specify 12mm when the door is taller than 78 inches, when the enclosure is a steam shower, or when the client prefers the heavier feel of a 12mm pivot door. Use our instant estimator and we will specify the right thickness for your project.
Yes — this is routine for us. Older Toronto homes in the Annex, East York, Riverdale, and similar pre-1980 neighbourhoods regularly have walls out of plumb by half an inch or more. Our post-tile laser measure captures the real geometry of the finished opening, and panels are cut with compensating angles so the glass fits flush regardless of wall condition. We do not use filler strips to hide poor fitting.
From the date of the final laser measure, standard tempered glass panels take 10–14 business days to fabricate. Specialty glass — fluted, reeded, smoked, or ultra-clear low-iron — is the same lead time in most cases. Laminated glass for exterior railings typically takes 2–3 weeks. Use our instant estimator, then book a free measure to lock in your timeline.
Yes. We offer removal and disposal of existing framed or semi-frameless shower enclosures as an add-on service. We schedule removal separately from the new glass installation, since the new enclosure cannot be measured until the old one is out and the tile is fully grouted. Ask about haul-away when you book your free measure.

I had a custom shower door installed by Built by Glass and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish the experience was smooth and professional. The final product looks absolutely stunning — sleek, modern, and exactly what I envisioned.
Jay and his team came within a week after measuring to install the double glass doors and mirrors. They used a laser to get everything perfectly level, and the result looks great. The hardware feels solid, operates smoothly, and really adds a quality touch.
